This is a terrible picture, but it’s the only one I caught of our excitement on Wednesday. It’s little Natalie’s fingers reaching under her bedroom door.
I was in the kitchen making dinner, Matt was on the phone to his mom in the living room, and the girls were playing close by. I heard Matt tell Joanna to open up her bedroom door. Then I heard her tell him that she couldn’t; it was locked. And Natalie was inside. Whoops. I didn’t worry at first because I had this memory of Matt using a coat hanger to open it the one other time it got closed while locked. Turns out that wasn’t the case. He says it got unlocked at that time, even though he’d gotten the coat hanger ready. (I must have been pregnant or sleeping or something. :) ) Anyway, I let him try with the coat hanger for a little while before I made him switch with me. Then I realized that wasn’t going to work so I googled how to unlock doors. :) Ehow said with this kind of door we needed a thin screwdriver to put into the hole and turn something inside. Great. We went on a hunt but couldn’t find one thin/long enough. Matt’s dad had come over at this point and we were preparing to pull off the door frame. Fine by me – just get my baby out!! It really was the best circumstances though. Natalie was in her room, likely the safest room for her to be in alone, she wasn’t hungry or dirty. She didn’t know she was in a wee bit of trouble. She was having fun looking at people’s toes. For a while anyway. She didn’t want me to walk away. If I did, I heard, “Mommy. Toes.” Broke my heart a little. Matt’s dad had gone to get some of his train tools, hoping they were smaller, and he was working with them. Then Matt found a small screwdriver in his tools, and I grabbed it. It really was like turning a little screw inside the doorknob. And she was out! Phew. I was starting to get pretty anxious – preggo hormones, you know. Joanna knows not to lock the door now, but we’ll likely be disabling/replacing those locks. Until then, the screwdriver key is in a safe place just in case. Later, I realized my adrenaline had been pumping, and I felt kind of dizzy and shaky as it was working it’s way out (okay, maybe not actually medically what was happening.) I didn’t actually need the adrenaline, although I’m 100% positive I could’ve kicked the door open if necessary.
Anyway, I put Natalie’s hair in piggie tails this afternoon. She actually kept them in for probably 30 minutes!
She still doesn’t have much hair in the front, but it’s actually kind of nice because we don’t have to worry about bangs or clips for a while. Joanna’s hair grew in the same way.
She is just TOO CUTE for words!! I think she’s mid-word here (Momma).
Yesterday I got to bring home a basket arrangement of fresh flowers that were left over from an event at the church. This morning I disassembled the basket in favor of some smaller arrangements that I could put in my kitchen window.
I deeply deeply LOVE having fresh flowers in my kitchen. They make me happy. :)
Aw poor Natalie. There is a tool, for opening the doors, I'm sure they have it at any hardware store, we keep a few tucked up on top of the door frames stuck to a piece of masking tape. No need to get new knobs or mess with the locks. Geesh I am such a know-it-all!
