Prayer and Braids

We’ve started most of the time bringing both girls to church with us at 11:00.  In the fall Natalie will officially be in Sunday School (instead of nursery).  In the nursery, they play the whole time and have crafts and snacks and things.  I find that for Sunday School, the lesson and craft part is all during the 9:40 hour, and they tend to watch a movie at 11:00.  I’m not a fan.  I understand why they do it, but I don’t like it.  They let the kids play in the first part of the service then they pick up, have snack, and watch a video.  So I get how they don’t want the room the be a mess when all the kids are leaving and the teachers have to stay after and clean up.  But just because I get it doesn’t mean I support it.  Of course I’m also not volunteering to teach that hour.  :)  I’ve opted to just take my kids to church after they hit Sunday School age.  It’s good for them anyway of course.  So even though Natalie’s still in the nursery and loves every minute of her teachers and dressing up and playing with friends, she’s learning how to come to big church this summer.  She’s doing a pretty good job too.

Something we do a lot during church (the sermon part usually) is braid hair.  It keeps them still and quiet.

This post was from last week; it got lost in the drafts and I just realized I hadn’t posted it!  Last week they pretty much made it through the service, with a bathroom break or two in there.  I know we’re a distraction with all the coming and going, I just hope we’re not too much of one.  :)

This week we made it late to church so I brought the girls over to nursery/S.S. after the children’s sermon so they could play for a bit.  I love how Natalie is often dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz when I pick her up.  Sometimes she has a tutu on underneath as well.  :)  And James ate his lunch in the nursery today, so we were able to come home and just put him to bed.  It made for a pretty pleasant lunch time.  I make our own baby food of course but James like to eat it warm; he’s very particular.  They can’t really warm it up in the nursery so he usually just eats snacks.  This week I decided to buy a few jars of food, thinking he might like them at room temperature.  Sure enough, he ate a jar of sweet potatoes – yay!  This will be nice for nursery time as well as when we’re somewhere without a microwave.
