(Written Saturday midday, copied verbatim today)
We just finished lunch: ramen noodles and fruit. I'll probably put Joanna down for a (hopefully long) nap soon. She is soooo tired. Neither of us slept well last night -- I think I will join her in the napping. We've been really lucky so far damage-wise. We lost part of a tree and a chunk of fence. There is debris everywhere outside. The worst for us is a leak in our roof. It's contained mostly in the attic. We noticed it because our front entry closet is very most. Most of the (random) stuff inside seems fine. Some board games and winter coats got wet and are drying out.
We've opened the fridge and transferred a few things to the ice chest -- milk, lunchmeat, yogurt -- that we'll eat up today. The stuff inside the fridge is staying pretty cool thus far. We've decided to stay out of the freezer and just let it stay as cold as it can. I have noticed a grape-popsicle-looking drip coming out, though. It was in the door -- hopefully the other stuff is fine. Though honestly, I wouldn't mind starting from scratch with my freezer when this is all over (and I may have to).
Our phones have been intermittant. I haven't been able to call or recieve calls but Matt has some. I've been able to text my friend in NC and get messages from her. I can't tell wheter my texts are reaching anybody local. Although Matt did get one, with only a few min. delay.
There's a boil-order for water in Harris county. They said there's a pressure/pump issue and the boiling is a precaution -- the water's probably actually okay.
My biggest complaint (and I knew it would be!) is the heat! I'm just not cut out for it. Mamma and Pop have a generator and a fan, so we may head there after a nap.
