I'm feeling like I've "popped" more in the last few days. I'm now clearly pregnant, not just a little heavy. :) I really have no idea how the growth is compared to the first time. I will say most of my maternity clothes are still too big. Thank you all my wonderful friends whose clothes I'm wearing. Right now I have on Shaun's top and Lisa's capris. A couple of days ago I had on Kim's shorts and Lisa's tank top. I've gotten LOTS of compliments ladies -- you all have such good taste! My weight now is about what it was when I got pregant with Joanna. Crazy. I'm quite a bit healthier and in better shape this go around, thanks to nursing/chasing Joanna! I'm 25 1/2 weeks, and feeling wonderful. This is definitely my favorite part of pregnancy -- the time when I look pregnant, but still move like a human.
This past Saturday, Matt, Joanna, and I decided to start car shopping (in person). We decided to head to CarMax on I-45 because we figured they'd have a large, diverse selection to look at. They did, but unfortunately I only got to drive a couple. Our sales guy knew we weren't going to buy on Saturday and basically told us we were wasting his time since he worked on commision and it was a busy day. Yup, he'll be getting my business again. Not. We looked at a couple of vans in our upper price range. I think a van is my first choice, mainly because of the 3rd row of seats. Sure, I don't use it now, but I'd like to have possibilities. One possibility is that we actually could have 3 children in carseats (no, we're not planning on a 3rd yet -- don't anybody freak out). Another possibility is that I may decide to start caring for a child full-time in addition to my own. It's a family business, and I know I would enjoy it. My goal would be to find a kiddo around Joanna's age. In that case, I would need a 3rd row of seats to drive them anywhere. I'm sure not being stuck at home all day everyday. I also drove a little wagon (a Kia, I think) that was very cute, and an Isuzu Ascender, which is an SUV. I was surprised at how smoothly the SUV drove; I was worried I would feel like I was driving a tank. I wrote down a bunch of cars to look up, and Matt and I are headed out again this evening. My wonderful mother is going to watch Joanna (assuming Continental doesn't decide she needs to work today) this evening so Matt and I can run around to a couple of places in Humble. Taking Joanan on a Saturday morning is one thing, during dinner and bedtime is not something I'm up for. If we don't end up finding a van, I'm hoping to at least find something up higher than a sedan. It's much easier getting kiddos in and out of carseats (pregnant or not) in taller cars. Of course we're also hoping to find something that gets pretty good mileage, has low miles, and is less than 3 years old. Are we picky? Maybe, but I tend to drive my cars into the ground so we're planning on having it for a while. Hey, if anybody out there has a car they really love -- leave a comment and tell me why.
Wow, that was a long story (and I'm not done yet!). After our little bit of car shopping, we ate lunch and hit the big Babies R Us. We figured Joanna was going to fall asleep in the car whether we headed home or not, so we decided to do some more shopping -- not for cars. Matt and I haven't been to IKEA since I was hugely pregnant with Joanna. I've been eyeing this little table for Joanna that's very inexpensive, so we headed over to get it. I love IKEA. We picked up the table and a couple of other little things, then decided we still weren't done shopping. Do I have a wonderful husband, or what? So we went home via Rice Village to visit my favorite maternity/baby store: A Woman's Work. Joanna was a little grumpy at this point after her very short car nap (sniffle, sniffle), but hanging in there. Matt kept her entertained while I got sized for a couple of new, well...um, bras. I was in desperate need; even Joanna noticed. So, after spending an obscene (but totally worth it -- I'll eat raman noodles) amount of money, I'm a new woman.
Friday evening I got to shop Baby Daze, a local consignment sale. It was great! I always volunteer for the sale so I can shop at the presale. It's less crowded and you get first dibs. I found several cute things for Joanna to wear this fall/winter. I'm guessing a little about what her growth will do. I got some 18mo and some 24mo stuff. I also picked up a few very tiny things for Baby Sister! Joanna actually never had any gowns and she only had a couple of button-up sleeper thingies. I got newborn size for everything, I think. Hopefully, she'll be able to use them! Joanna was in NB size FOREVER, but I never really understood that there was a difference between that and 0-3 months, so I think I was trying to put her in stuff that was way too big. Anyway, I know this kiddo could be bigger, but most of them still need NB stuff for a little while, and it will be good to have. Wow, I'm rambling. I also got some legos for Joanna (okay, me), a train set for Joanna (okay, Matt), and a little baby doll and a ball. Babies and balls are her FAVORITE things these days. "Baby," she says, and "bah." This new little cabbage patch baby and Sesame Street doll are going everywhere with her lately.

Good luck with the car shopping...I totally agree with you about a van for the third row. We have the Pilot with the third row, but if it you're using it, you have NO storage. I love my in-laws van...I think my next car...in a million years, will be a van.
ReplyDeleteI wished I'd had a few more NB size baby clothes, too. They were handy for the first weeks, and I LOVED gowns. They were so easy during the middle of the night diaper changes.
LOVE Woman's Work...that place has a lot of my money, too!
I love our honda cr-v...low-ish gas milege, nice size with good cargo area, no third row seats, but I think I could put three car seats in the back seat...I've also heard realy good things about the pilot. We love hondas, but that's us. they're hardy. My parents have a toyota highlander and they love it, but not sure what price range on used ones are. My sister Jen loves her scion, but I don't think it's tall enough for me. That's why I like my cr-v, it's taller, but not huge. OK, that's my input.
