How Your Baby’s Growing (from Babycenter.com):
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
How far along: 27 weeks
Pregnancy symptoms: Braxton Hicks contractions, back pain, foggy brain
Food Cravings: fruit, chocolate, Twizzlers, popcorn
Sleep: good!
Measurement: 42 inches around the belly when I let it all hang out :)
Movement: lots!
Labor signs: nothing really, thank goodness
What I miss: Well, I guess I miss being able to pick up things off the floor without so much trouble. And I miss being able to really reach my feet.
What I’m looking forward to: next week’s doctor’s appointment; I’ve also started thinking about cloth diapering my newborn, and I’m SO EXCITED!! I can’t wait to get my hands on that tiny tushie! My current plan is to use the “old school” type diapers (prefolds with a cover) for the little man. It seems like that may work best for teeny tiny babies. I ordered a couple that will fit Natalie (these particular prefolds have a few sizes, which makes for less folding and a better fit), and I’m excited to try them when they come in. I doubt I’ll love them as much as my pocket diapers, but I’ve read a lot of comments from people that really enjoy diapering this way. It’s cheaper, too.
Milestone: I was described by several people today as looking “very pregnant,” or “much more round,” or similar. I think it was the wardrobe and the fact that I was up in front of everyone singing. We had to wear white tops and black bottoms for Sola Gratia today and I struggled with the top. I ended up in a maternity tank top/camisole underneath a blouse of my mom’s that was basically big enough but didn’t button. Anyway, white is a shade that doesn’t hide the roundness. I also definitely have a baby bump – there’s no hiding it! (nor would I want to)
Thoughts from the Girls: I posted a few days ago about Joanna having labor during her rest time. She’s clearly thinking about Baby Brother joining us! Natalie LOVES to pull up my shirt so she can kiss the belly. She’s also obsessed with my belly button. Did you know she had a thing with belly buttons?
