I’ve started thinking about the kids’ lunches for the fall and what supplies might be good for packing food and snacks. I’ve really started ditching all of our plastic containers and cups and replacing them with metal and glass. I feel like it’s best for our food not to come in contact with plastic a lot or for extended periods, especially when microwaving is involved. The girls’ divided plates that I often packed their school lunches in were getting too small for their appetites anyway.
One thing that I’d love to find (but haven’t really yet) is a sort of bento box or divided container type thing that’s made of metal. That way it’d be shatter-proof for school and fine for cold lunches that don’t need warming.
Something else that I’d like to have some of are cloth bags to replace using any kind of ziplock. I rarely use sandwich bags anyway, but I’m often tempted for things like Cheerios and goldfish or even grapes or apple slices.
I started searching on etsy for reusable cloth bags – there are lots of people who make them out there. One site I found offered personalized embroidery so I decided to get a couple as a gift for one of Joanna’s friends. I thought we also needed one too, to see if it was something I’d like a bunch of.
I love the idea of personalizing these so I don’t have to sharpie them later. I opted for “Pence” since “Natalie or Joanna” seemed awfully long. :)
This is the “snack” size, which is a bit small for a sandwich. I could probably put half a sandwich in, but it’ll be better for things like fruit and crackers. These are lined with food-grade nylon, but they’re still better than using and tossing a ziplock, if you ask me. And the nylon makes them very easy to wipe clean.
These particular ones are made by retrorugrats on etsy. They’re great quality and they have lots of cute fabrics, plus the free personalization. The shipping is reasonable, too. However, they don’t have any “grown-up” fabrics, which I do want for Matt.
I found another seller with lots of neutral fabrics who does bags and sandwich wraps. I’m probably going to get a few things from there as well. The sandwich wraps will be good for our big ol’ sandwiches for Matt and Natalie.
Okay, on to some more pics of the girls. I’m so rambling.
At Grandma’s house last Tuesday. Joanna asked me to make her some glasses out of pipe cleaners
Then the girls had to try on Uncle Mark’s glasses.
My wonderful mother watched the girls on Thursday (her only day off from work this week) while I worked. When I came home, she had them both in her lap. Joanna was asleep; Natalie had just woken up and was chillin.’
Even though it messed with bedtime, Joanna needed that nap for sure.
Natalie asked for a ponytail. Isn’t she hilarious?
My wonderful mother came over again this morning so I could go have some blood work done. I had to have my one hour glucose tolerance test done, as well as some other blood work. I wanted to go pretty much first thing, since I didn’t need a lot of sugar in my system before the test. I didn’t have to fast, so I ate a couple of eggs before going. I’m pretty sure I’d pass out if I couldn’t eat for several hours in the morning. I am such a breakfast girl. I went to a new lab location and I LOVE it! Previous to this location being open (down the street from the ObGyn and next door to my GP), I had to truck it to Humble (long trip, huh!) to the grody location. This new place is soooooo much nicer; I wouldn’t have minded having one or both girls with me, except for the hour wait of course. The other place was just icky, not to mention very busy. This place was dead today! It was like a mini vacation, sitting there in the new, clean waiting room reading a book… by myself. Ahhhh…
