We’re still excited about the cloth diapers around here!
We now have 8 that fit Miss Natalie and one more small that will fit the little man. I have a friend who had three brand new FuzziBunz that she sold me for cheap. :) I also bought a few more BumGenius that were on clearance online.

The few at the bottom are actually gDiapers that I had left over. I think my girls have a little bit of a sensitivity to whatever material the disposable inserts are made of, but I was giving it another shot. Sure enough, after several days of using them (mixed in with disposables and cloth), Miss Natalie got a diaper rash. It went away when I stopped using them. I guess I can’t say for SURE that the gDiapers caused her rash since at this age it could be anything, but she really hadn’t had one in quite some time, so I’m leaning toward that option. (Sorry for that run-on sentence.) GDiapers now sells cloth inserts which I do want to try. I have 2 small, 2 medium, and 4 large diapers that are super-cute and I’d love to be able to use. Fortunately only one is pink. :)
One thing that makes cloth diapering even more green is using cloth wipes. Right now I just have some old baby washcloths (some were pretty grungy!) that I’m using. To tell the difference between the ones used on very dirty bottoms and the ones used for bath (on only slightly dirty bottoms), I wrote “D” for diaper on the wipes in sharpie. Sure, I could have done some embroidery, but… The size is pretty perfect for wiping little bottoms, and they go right into the laundry with the diapers. If you use disposable wipes, it’s an extra step. I used an old wipes box to hold them.
And you can see my little set up next to the changing table. I really am loving the cloth diapers and not finding them difficult to use at all. Now that we have 8 of them, Natalie can wear them pretty much all the time we’re at home. I leave them on her for errands as well, during which time I cross my fingers for no poo. :) I send disposables to the nursery and I leave disposables out for my mom and any other sitters she has. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get my mom on board with them soon though. :)
With Natalie, it’s super easy to change her diaper then put her down to play while I take care of the diaper if it’s dirty. With my newborn it won’t be quite as easy, although after the changing part is done, it’s pretty one handed. Dump the poo; put the whole diaper in the laundry bag. Wash within a couple of days. And if the weather is nice, hang to dry! Man, the inserts take forever to dry inside.

so what do you do when the poo is really nasty and squishy and doesn't "dump out"?? Do you have to like scrape or swish them? B/c that's pretty much like cleaning nasty underwear during potty training. Just wondering...since you posted about this.
ReplyDeleteNope! Just dump what you can and wash the rest! It's a cold rinse, hot wash and another cold rinse. That's a lot of water and the poo goes bye bye!
