Dr. Pepper and the Sweet Potato Queen

Have I mentioned that Joanna calls Dr. Harper Dr. Pepper? I think that's funny. I find it hard not to copy her. :)
Anyway, Natalie and I went to the doctor today for her 6 month check-up.
As you can tell from the paper, Natalie is 15lbs 2 oz, 25 1/4 inches long. Her head circum. was 16 something inches. She's headed up the chart very nicely in the 25th percentile. She's so perfect! Her doc would like to see her on a multivitamin (Joanna, too) so I picked one up today. I also picked up two of her very own sippy cups. I'm going to start letting her have a little water to get that whole cup learning started.
She had another round of shots, the same ones as last visit. She drank her rototeq vaccine, dribbling a little down her chin. After the first shot, she just gave the nurse a "what the heck did you just do to me?" look, but oh the waterworks started after the second one! She crashed as soon as we got in the car which was good, and she actually stayed asleep in the store which is almost unheard of!
Poor little Miss Band-aid legs!
Oh she's so cute!
Just FYI, Joanna was 11lbs 6.5oz and 24 inches long at her 6 month check up. I can't help but comparing my incomparible kiddos! You can read about Joanna's six month check up here.

This evening, I prepped Natalie's first veggie. I thought I'd take you through my process.
First I cooked the sweet potato. Normally I would bake it in the oven, but since it's 8000 degrees outside, I nuked it.
I scooped out the flesh into my magic bullet and added a little water.
Isn't it beautiful?!
My favorite (and not very green) way to transfer puree into the ice cube trays is to use a ziplock as an pastry bag. I squeeze a little into each cube. Because this is thicker than I will actually feed it to Natalie, I just filled each cube about half full. I'll defrost one for a feeding and mix with a little water or breastmilk.
Mmmm...
What do you think, Natalie? Well, mom, it's hard to look at the camera and eat.
"I love it!"
And she really did. She seem to like it better than the rice cereal, which she got a little of tonight, too. It's kind of sad to see my tiny baby becoming a food eater. Bye bye breastmilk diapers... I shall miss you. :)
So 2 foods down, eight gajillion to go.

  1. Way to Go Natalie! I did some of that with Paul David when he was older, but I plan to do more of it sooner with Judson. Especially bananas...never realized how easy that would be!
